So it appears Vox will be closing their doors at the end of September, which kind of left me in position to have to move my blog. My life has been so hectic with a move, getting settled again and well…life in general, that I hadn’t really been using it. I had been thinking over the past couple months that I did need to get back to blogging, and more so recently. (A lot of things on my mind lol) So perhaps Vox closing it’s doors was a blessing in disguise. Forced me to get my ass in gear and get this up and running. Rather than use another blogging site, I decided to move everything back to my own domain. I mean really, that’s what I have it for right? BlackMonaLisa has been sitting unused for too long at any rate.
Although, after the day I’ve had I have to wonder is it all really worth it…
The day started off fairly well, I suppose. Finished up some previews for a design client and sent them for review. While I was waiting for response to that I decided to work on getting BlackMonaLisa up and running. Which meant a fresh install of WordPress, plugins etc…No sooner do I get in the middle of that, I start getting some feedback from my client. Every web designer knows without a doubt that they are going to have to make changes to a design they are working on. For the most part these changes are generally minimal and just some minor tweaking. In all my years of designing I have NEVER EVER encountered something like this client. I was, and still remain slightly, in shock.
First there was the issue with the design, which left me thinking “ummmmmm ok?” But whatever, they are the client and they know what they want. I think the best way I can describe this is via theoatmeal‘ It turns out this client wanted a replication of the poor site that they had. And were talking, like myspace design badness. I think it’s a general understanding that when you hire a web designer, it’s too improve your website, not give you the same regurgitated piece of crap you already have. Why even bother paying someone for that? That itself probably wouldn’t have been so bad, but this client was extremely rude to boot! Oh Hell No! I do not care how much someone is paying me, I won’t tolerate rudeness. Particularly if unwarranted and they have no clue what they are talking about. So I fired them as a client. Didn’t even reply the rudeness, just sent back the deposit, wished them luck and sent them on their way. Asta la vista and good riddance.
Then I notice that in midst of dealing with “the client”, I’d closed out all the work I was doing on BlackMonaLisa. I had gotten the blog software installed, made some changes and had imported the posts from Vox. What I failed to do what to write down the login information for the control panel, or update the login information. So I effectively locked myself out. Too pissed at this time to go digging through a database, I delete and reinstall. And there we have it…
BlackMonaLisa has been resurrected!
